The School of Information Science and Engineering (SISE) was founded in November 2011. Its former bodies were the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering. SISE has one discipline (Computer Science and Technology) and three sub disciplines (Computer Architecture, Computer Application Technology, Image Processing and Intelligent Systems) for master's authorization, and six undergraduate-level programs of Computer Science & Technology, Internet Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering and Automation. Around 1390 students (45 Postgraduates and 1345 undergraduates) study in the school.
With an area of nearly 10,000 square meters, SISE consists of six departments (the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Internet of Things Engineering, the Department of Internet Engineering, the Department of Communication Engineering, the Department of Automation, the Department of Electronic Information Engineering), one Guangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Complex Systems and Intelligent Computing, two university key laboratories, five laboratories for undergraduate teaching (the Laboratory of Electronic Information, the Laboratory of Communication Engineering, the Laboratory of Network Engineering, the Laboratory of Automation, the Laboratory of Internet of Things Engineering Technology) and two centers (the Experimental Teaching Center of Computer Basic Courses and the Experimental Teaching Center of Computer and Electronic Communication Virtual Simulation). The school has over 3500 sets of equipment worth above RMB17 million for teaching and scientific research. More than 56 Faculty members work in the school, including three doctoral supervisors, ten professors, sixteen associate professors, fourteen PhD teachers, twenty master's supervisors, one specialist receiving a special State allowance, one recipient of the “100 Talents Programme of the Chinese Academy of Sciences”, one of the “100 Middle and Young Academic Leaders of Guangxi Universities”, one of the “Guangxi BaGui Scholars”, one of “Guangxi Excellent Experts” and one of the “Guangxi Outstanding Teachers”.
As a result of generations' hard work, all departments and disciplines of the school have made remarkable achievements in discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research and applied technology development. Research in the school spans all levels of over 20 funded projects, from “863 Project” to “973 Sub-Project”, as well as more than 20 provincial key and general projects, over 30 scientific research projects of Guangxi Education Department, 8 national patents, 3 horizontal projects, 7 Guangxi Education teaching reform projects, 11 items of Software copyright, 1 Provincial Excellent Course, 3 national and provincial awards. The school has more than 620 publications in major domestic and international academic journals, among which more than 180 papers are included in the Science Citation Index (SCI), the Engineering Index (EI) and the Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP). More than 20 academic monographs and textbooks have been published. Cooperative research in science and technology with many enterprises and institutions has also been actively carried out to serve the society.
SISE endeavors to achieve its goals of cultivating outstanding talents, conducting cutting edge research. It adheres to the path of internationalization, attracts and retains senior researchers at home and abroad. It constantly enhances the world influence and international competitiveness of its disciplines, gradually forms its own characteristics in terms of talent cultivation and scientific research. It has offered and enrolled international students for bachelor’s and master’s programs. With solid collaborations with universities, research institutes and enterprises at home and abroad, SISE is becoming an internationally influential and nationally leading school in its education and research.
