GXMZU Delegation Visits Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos

From February 15 to 24, Wei Shizhen, President of Guangxi Minzu University (GXMZU), led a delegation on a visit to Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos. During the trip, President Wei attended the 2024 Confucius Institute Council and the Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes, hosted by the GXMZUS Confucius Institute at Universitas Tanjungpura (UTP), Indonesia. She also participated the unveiling ceremony of the Practical Training Center for International Chinese Education and the Center for Regional and Country Studies, a joint initiative between GXMZU and the National University of Laos (NUOL). Additionally, the delegation paid courtesy visits to the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Laos, the PRC Embassy in Thailand, the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, and Thailands Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.

 

The delegation attends the GXMZU 2024 Confucius Institute Council and Joint Conference

On February16, President Wei and her delegation visited UTP in Indonesia. There, she attended the GXMZU 2024 Confucius Institute Council and Confucius Institute Joint Conference and held talks with Garuda Wiko, President of UTP; Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, President of NUOL; and Prayook Srivilai, President of MSU. Representatives from the Confucius Institutes at the UTP, NUOL, and MSU reported on their work in 2024, covering Chinese language teaching, talent cultivation, cultural exchange, and faculty development, and presented their project plans and implementation shemes for 2025. Council chairs and members from both Chinese and international sides voted to adopt the relevant work plans as well with the annual budget and final accounts reports. During the stay, the delegation also visited Pei De School, the Common Hope Language Institute, and the Chinese Education Coordination Agency of West Kalimantan Province.

The delegation visits Charoen Pokphand Group in Thailand

On February 20 and 21, President Wei Shizhen led a delegation to MSU in Thailand for a discussion with MSU President Prayook Srivilai. Both sides reviewed the longstanding cooperative achievements between the two universities and expressed a shared desire to further deepen collaboration and elevate the partnership to new heights. During the visit to Thailand, President Wei paid courtesy calls on the PRC Embassy, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Charoen Pokphand Group. Additionally, she visited the Confucius Institute at MSU and met with alumni from the GXMZU Alumni Association in Thailand.

 

The delegation meets with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos

On the 23rd, President Wei Shizhen accompanied Chen Gang, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region People's Congress, and Fang Hong, Chinese Ambassador to Laos, on a visit to the Confucius Institute at the NUOL. They engaged in exchanges with faculty, students, and alumni. President Wei and President Dexanourath Seneduangdeth unveiled the plaques for the jointly established Practical Training Center for International Chinese Education and the Center for Regional and Country Studies. During the visit to Laos, the delegation also met with officials from the PRC Embassy and the Ministry of Education and Sports, toured the Confucius Classroom at Vangvieng National High School, and donated study and living supplies on behalf of the university.

Heads of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Human Resources Office, the Finance Office, the Academic Affairs Office, and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering participated in the above activities.
