College of Ethnology and Sociology

The College of Ethnology and Sociology (CES) of Guangxi Minzu University (GXMZU) was founded in July 2003. It possesses there undergraduate specialties of Ethnology, History, Sociology, two academic master’s programs of Ethnology and Chinese of History, a Ph.D. program of Ethnology and a Postdoctoral Research Station of Ethnology, four professional master’s programs of Subject Teaching（History）, Cultural Heritage, Museology, and Social Work. There are 81 staffs and 1566 students including undergraduate, postgraduate students as well as 18 postdoctoral researchers in the CES at present.

The CES consistently adheres to the comprehensive implementation of the Party's education policy, carries out the fundamental task of fostering virtue and talents, adheres to the original mission of cultivating talent for the Party and the State. It adheres to the principle of “focusing on Party building around the core, promoting development through effective Party building”. Various aspects of work, including Party building ideological and political work, discipline construction, teaching reform, scientific research, talent cultivation, and social services, are steadily advancing. In 2021, the CES was awarded the title of “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization” by GXMZU. In 2023, it was selected as the second batch of benchmark units for party building in Guangxi universities in the new era and the second batch of comprehensive reform demonstration departments for ‘Three-Comprehensive Education’in the entire region. Currently, the CES has 13 party branches, including one five-star party branch at the university level, one four-star party branch at the university level, and two three-star party branches at the university level. The undergraduate party branch of ethnic studies was recognized as one of the first batch of model party branches for party building in Guangxi universities in the new era. The party branch secretary’s studio of the history faculty was recognized as a unit for cultivating “dual leading figures” teacher party branch secretary studios, and the “Strong Country Tour” special action team in Guangxi universities.

The CES has a sound academic basis including 23 search centers, two regional level talent station, 12 laboratories, a library, a mobile station of postdoctoral research and a museum. It inherits the ideology of ethnicity, regional specialty and internationality in educational development and has made outstanding achievements. Ethnology is now a national-level course and featured specialty owning national-level teaching team, excellent course and resources-sharing course, and top-level discipline in Guangxi. History was awarded as an ascendant specialty group of universities in Guangxi and the First-class Undergraduate program of Guangxi, owning national first-class course Cultural Geography.The research results in the field of Ethnology and Anthropology is brilliant in southern China and Southeast Asia. The CES has granted the title of “Guangxi Worker Pioneer” in 2017, and the title of “National Worker Pioneer” in 2021.
