The School of Media was established on March 11th, 2014, based on some original majors of the School of Chinese and the School of Fine Arts. It is a joint research unit of the Party Committee Propaganda Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Television and Guangxi University for Nationalities. The School of Media adheres to the direction of socialist education, fully implements the national education policy, adheres to scientific development. With the focus on undergraduate education and the active development of postgraduate education, we properly cultivate multimedia application-oriented professionals with high overall quality and innovative spirit.
There are 5 undergraduate majors in Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Broadcasting and Television Director, Editing and Publishing, Communication Studies, and Journalism, and a postgraduate program as MA in Film and Television Theory and Creation. Broadcasting and hosting Arts is the characteristic professionalism at the provincial level in Guangxi. Radio and television Director is one of the university-level leading disciplines. Editing and publishing obtains the title of top ten specialties in the university.
We have more than 1,100 students from different nationalities across the country, including 35 postgraduates. There are more than 50 faculty members, including 15 senior titles, and 30 teachers have obtained doctoral or master’s degrees. Most of the faculty have practical experience in media. Teachers in the faculty are committed to the construction of a dual qualified team with rich teaching experience, high teaching level, strong innovation ability, and good moral characters.
The school has perfect practical teaching conditions. There are the radio and television laboratory teaching center and the news publishing experimental teaching center. We provide 7 professional laboratories covering more the 1800 m2, such as the television studio, the photographic camera lab, the recording lab, the non-linear editing lab, the digital media lab, the editing and publishing lab, and the digital publishing and dissemination lab. We also offer 600 sets of teaching equipment with the total value of about 7 million yuan.
According to the need of talents for media applications in the new era, the school has its own practical teaching platforms such as newspapers, magazines, websites, experimental TV stations, etc. We also work with more than 20 media organizations such as Guangxi Daily Media Group, Guangxi Television, Guangxi People's Publishing House, and Guangxi Science and Technology Press to establish practical teaching bases. Practical teaching is developed basing on the media operating model, aiming at students' professional skills and innovation capabilities.
Specific teaching and research incentives has been introduced to encourage teachers to conduct scientific research and participate in various types of teaching competitions at all levels. During the past three years, our teachers have obtained 29 academic projects of various types, including 2 national humanities and social science projects, 9 provincial level projects, 17 bureau-level projects, and 1 horizontal research. Our teachers also have contributed to 6 published monographs as well as 42 CSSCI papers.
The school has a good reputation from social employers of talent fostering. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 95% for the past three years. Engaged in broadcasters, reporters, editorial publishing and planning, media management, our graduates are found in media organizations such as the Central People's Broadcasting Station, China Central Television and other provincial radio and television stations and major publishing houses and daily newspapers. There are also a large number of graduates now serves in government agencies and institutions with good social evaluation
