Introduction to the College of the Arts(College of Folk Music)
The College of the Arts of Guangxi Minzu University is located in Nanning, Guangxi’s capital city. It was established in 2002 and evolved from the Art Department of Guangxi Minzu College. On May 18, 2023, to further promote its connotative development, Guangxi Minzu University established the College of Folk Music. Guided by the mission of strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation and committed to fostering virtue and cultivating talents, the college consistently upholds Party leadership, deepens disciplinary and educational reforms, and focuses on ethnic art education. It is dedicated to nurturing innovative artistic talents who excel in both virtue and artistry.
The College of the Arts (College of Folk Music) currently offers seven undergraduate programs: Music, Music Performance, Dance, Environmental Arts Design, Visual Communication, Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection, and Fine Arts. It also hosts two master’s degree programs: one in Design and one in Music. The college has 2,103 full-time undergraduate students and 146 postgraduate students. Among its 93 faculty and staff members, 74 are full-time teachers, including 26 with senior professional titles and 63 holding master’s or doctoral degrees.
The college primarily operates and conducts teaching in the Yixin Building. It comprises the Department of Music, Department of Environmental Design, Department of Dance, Department of Visual Communication Design, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection, Experimental Teaching Center, and Administrative Office. The teaching facilities cover nearly 20,000 square meters and include music composition studios, music rehearsal and training rooms, a professional concert hall, music practice rooms, a digital recording laboratory, dance rehearsal halls, photography studios, a digital 3D technology laboratory, a virtual reality and information modeling laboratory, a digital screen printing laboratory, a digital imaging technology laboratory, a modern ceramics technology laboratory, a metalworking laboratory, a wooden architecture model laboratory, and an ethnic dyeing and weaving laboratory.
Leveraging its geographical advantage as a hub along the “Belt and Road” initiative and its unique ethnic cultural resources, the college focuses on building two distinctive brands: Ethnic Arts and ASEAN Arts. In recent years, it has strengthened international exchanges and collaborations, implementing programs such as the “Sino-Foreign High-Level University Student Exchange Program and China-Italy 2+2 Credit Recognition Joint Training Project” with prestigious institutions like the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti di MILANO, Italy. Additionally, the college has established internship and training bases with renowned enterprises and institutions both within and outside the region, such as Hualan Group, cultivating a large number of outstanding students.
