Introduction to the College of Educational Sciences

Founded in 2008, the development orientation of the College of Educational Sciences is to be rooted in Guangxi, serve the whole country, and radiate to Southeast Asia. It is committed to vigorously developing undergraduate education, giving priority to postgraduate education, and promoting teacher education. Focusing on research in fundamental educational theories, education in ethnic regions, and education in ASEAN countries, the college strives to build itself into a distinctive institution with significant influence both inside and outside Guangxi. Its development philosophy is "Establishing the college with distinctive features, strengthening it with talented personnel, prospering it through harmony, and elevating it with high-quality standards". The development approach adheres to the coordinated development of talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance, and international exchanges; emphasizes equal attention to basic, distinctive, and cutting-edge research; balances theoretical, policy-oriented, and practical research; and dialectically integrates standardization, reform, and innovation.
Officially authorized to award master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Education and professional master's degrees in Education, the college offers 6 master's programs, namely Principles of Education, Higher Education, Comparative Education, Educational Management, Mental Health Education, and Modern Educational Technology. At the undergraduate level, it has two programs: Applied Psychology and Education, of which the Applied Psychology program is one of the two provincial-level first-class undergraduate program construction sites in psychology in Guangxi. Principles of Education is a provincial key discipline in Guangxi; the Ethnic Education and Psychology Laboratory is a key laboratory jointly built by the central and local governments; the Education discipline teaching team is a distinguished teacher education teaching team in Guangxi; Psychological Development and Education is a provincial model curriculum for ideological and political education in Guangxi, with its teaching team recognized as an exemplary ideological and political education teaching team; and both Education and General Psychology are provincial premium teacher education courses in Guangxi.
The college houses several provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, including the "Key Research Base for Ethnic Education in Guangxi" under the National Ethnic Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, the Guangxi Ethnic Education Research Center, and the Guangxi Teacher Education Base.
Placing great emphasis on scientific research, the college has achieved a series of fruitful academic results. It has obtained 8 national-level research projects and over 130 provincial, ministerial, and department-level projects. And it has published 51 monographs, edited works, and translations, including the "Ethnic Education Research Series", "ASEAN Higher Education Research Series", "ASEAN Higher Education Policies and Regulations Series", and "Education Discipline Construction Series". More than 200 academic papers written by its faculty members have been published in CSSCI-indexed journals or Chinese core journals such as the Journal of Higher Education and Journal of Ethnic Education. The college has won 2 National Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Educational Sciences Research and 9 Guangxi Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards. Also, it has made remarkable progress in educational reform at both basic and higher education levels, receiving 2 National Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Basic Education Teaching and 11 Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Education Teaching. The college features high-quality talent cultivation. In recent years, the postgraduate entrance examination rate of its undergraduate students has consistently ranked among the top in the university. They actively participate in academic competitions and have achieved excellent results: the project Pure Heart – Volunteer Service for Adolescents with Psychological Distress won the Silver Award in the "Youth Red Dream-Building Journey" track of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2024). And they won the First Prize and Third Prize in the National "Tin Ka Ping Cup" Teaching Skills Competition for full-time Master of Education graduate students majoring in Mental Health Education, the Second Prize in the First National College Students' Psychological Counseling Course Teaching Competition, the Second Prize and Third Prize in the First National Teaching Skills Competition for full-time Master of Education graduate students majoring in Mental Health Education, the Third Prize in the 4th National University Psychological Scene Drama Competition, the Regional Gold Award in the 5th China "Internet+" College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the Second Prize and Third Prize in the 3rd Guangxi Undergraduate University Psychological Course Teaching Skills Competition. A number of college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training projects have been approved at the national and provincial-ministerial levels.
As for its second-class programs (complementary to the first classroom ), the college has created distinctive brands. The campus psychological drama practice activity carried out by the college was specially reported on the 8th edition of Guangming Daily on April 10, 2019, under the title "Resolving Psychological Problems at an Early Stage". The "Caring for Autistic Children" team had the "Sunshine Assistance for the Disabled" project approved by the Autonomous Region Disabled Persons' Federation, and one class League branch had the National College Students' Yan'an Practice Special Project approved, which is one of the three teams in Guangxi to receive this approval.
