General Information of the School of Marxism

The School of Marxism is one of the earliest-established academic units at Guangxi Minzu University, responsible for teaching and researching ideological and political theory courses across the university. Its predecessor, the Teaching and Research Office of Marxism-Leninism, was founded in 1960. It was renamed as the Department of Marxism-Leninism in 1991, merged with the Teaching and Research section of Moral Education in 1992 to form the Department of Social Sciences, then it was officially renamed as the School of Marxism in 2011. In 2016, it was recognized as the Key School of Marxism in Guangxi’s universities. The First Party Branch of the Faculty and staff of the school received the “Second Batch of the Model Branch for the nationwide work of the Communist Party of China Building” award, while the Party Committee of School was honored as an “Advanced primary-level Party Organization of the Party Committee and the Education Working Committee of the Autonomous Region” and “The First batch of benchmark Schools for the Communist Party of China Building among Guangxi universities in the New Era” .
The School currently has 112 full-time and part-time faculty members, including 24 professors, 36 associate professors, 8 doctoral supervisors, 52 faculty with doctoral degrees, and 9 doctoral candidates. Its distinguished faculty includes 1 expert receiving the State Council Special Allowance, 1 National Model Teacher, 1 Guangxi “Bagui Scholar”, 1 Outstanding Expert of Guangxi, 1 Guangxi Distinguished Teaching Master, 2 Outstanding Teachers of Guangxi, 1 recipient of the Guangxi May 1st Labor Medal, 1 recipient of the Guangxi Youth May Fourth Medal, 1 Guangxi March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter, 2 Guangxi Cultural Masters and “Four Batches of Talents” (including young talents), 2 leading figures in ideological and political education in Guangxi universities, and 3 top-tier talents in ideological and political education in Guangxi universities.
The School was authorized to confer master’s programs in the secondary discipline of Marxist Theory and Ideological and Political Education in 2000, and was authorized to confer master’s programs in the first-level disciplines of Marxist Theory in 2006, the master’s programs in the first-level disciplines of The History and Establishing of the Communist Party of China in 2024. It also enrolls professional master’s candidates in Subject Teaching (Ideological and Political Education) and doctoral degree candidates in Marxist Ethnic Theory and Policy. Since 1978, the School has admitted undergraduates in the History of the Communist Party of China, which is the only major of its kind in Guangxi and one of the earliest nationwide. The school has also established the first Research Institute of the History of the Communist Party of China in Guangxi. Currently, there are nearly 550 undergraduates and graduate students are enrolled.
The School has a Teacher Team of National Huang Danian Model recognized by the Ministry of Education and has been approved for three national first-class undergraduate courses. It comprises nine teaching and research divisions: Basic Principles of Marxism; Mao Zedong Thought and the Outline of Theoretical System on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics; Ideological Morality and the Rule of Law; Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History; Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; Situation and Policy; Practical Teaching of Ideological and Political Courses; The History of the Communist Party of China; and Ideological and Political Course for Graduate Students .
There are two provincial and ministerial-level key disciplines of School : Sinicization of Marxism and Basic Principles of Marxism , and four provincial and ministerial-level research bases: the Guangxi Marxist Theory Research and Development Base, the Theoretical Research Workstation of Guangxi People’s Political Consultative Conference in Guangxi, the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base of Guangxi Universities (Marxist Theory Research Base), and the Training Base of Cadre Education in Guangxi.
