Introduction to the School of Materials and Environment
Established in April 2020, the School of Materials and Environment at Guangxi Minzu University is a newly founded engineering college. It was created in response to major national strategic initiatives and to serve the socio-economic development of ethnic regions. Guided by the philosophy of “Rooted in Guangxi, Oriented towards ASEAN, Student-Centered, and Innovation-Driven,” the School is dedicated to cultivating high-caliber engineering talent with innovative spirit and practical capabilities in the fields of new materials, new energy, and environmental science. Its mission is to contribute to regional industrial upgrading and sustainable development.
Located within the scenic Wuming Higher Education Park, the School operates from a modern teaching and research building with a total floor area of 15,464 square meters. This facility includes approximately 8,739 square meters of specialized laboratories and a 1,000-square-meter engineering practice training center, providing students with an excellent environment for learning, hands-on practice, and innovation.
The School boasts a strong faculty of 72 members, including 35 professors and associate professors, and 50 holding doctoral degrees. Among them are 2 doctoral supervisors and 47 master's supervisors. The faculty features a group of high-level talents, such as:

Furthermore, the School has established 3 university-level “Xiangsihu Young Scholar” Innovation Teams, forming a well-structured and dynamic teaching and research workforce.
The School has established a well-proportioned and complete talent development system. As of December 2025, the total student enrollment stands at 1,955, comprising 1,761 undergraduates and 194 postgraduates. It offers five undergraduate programs: Metal Materials Engineering, Polymer Materials and Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, and New Energy Materials and Devices. Among these, Metal Materials Engineering and Environmental Engineering are recognized as University-level Characteristic Specialties. The courses Mechanical Properties of Materials and Environmental Monitoring are rated as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region First-Class Courses.
For postgraduate education, the School offers:
A Master of Science (MSc) program in Nano Science and Engineering.
A Master of Engineering (MEng) program in Resources and Environment.
A joint Master of Engineering (MEng) program in Materials and Chemical Engineering, offered in collaboration with the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
The School places high importance on research platforms and industry-academia-research collaboration. It has established eight key teaching and research platforms, forming an integrated and deeply synergistic “Education-Research-Translation” framework:

Looking ahead, the School will continue to focus on technological frontiers and local needs, adhere to open cooperation, and continuously enhance the quality of talent cultivation and capacity for technological innovation. It strives to become a distinctive, regionally leading, and nationally influential high-level engineering college.
